The Bird Cage ( Pigeon Proof Bird Feeder )

The Bird Cage … ( Pigeon Proof Bird Feeder ) … Due to recent problems with pigeons getting on to my bird feeders I decided to invest in this “Bird Cage”. I initially thought the gaps were going to be too small for the bullfinches to fit through, but I’m pleased to say I had no need to be concerned. HOW SQUIRREL PROOF IS SQUIRREL PROOF?

Many bird feeders advertised display the crossed out squirrel sign. Believe me, I have tried them all, and so have my garden squirrels. I am afraid I have to report that I have yet to find a feeder that was truly and totally squirrel proof. I don’t mean that the squirrels can actually destroy the feeder completely (which they can the wood and plastic ones) but, at the very least, they will manage to cling on and nibble at some of the seed or nuts through the “ports” meant for birds only. Or they will somehow get the lids off, and snaffle the top layer of food, and allow the rain to get in and spoil the rest. This doesn’t mean I don’t heartily recommend the so-called squirrel proof feeders — in fact, they are the only ones I use but I do suggest that you do a little bit of “customising” to secure the lids. I twist a length of heavy duty garden wire across between the handles of the feeder, so that it holds the lid down. Keep it tight and wind round a couple of times, and it certainly gives the squirrel an almost insurmountable problem. It will probably eventually gnaw its way through, but all you have to do is change the wire. Let’s face it, squirrels are great to watch and kids love them. Whilst not all squirrels are as easy to deter as the one in this video most can be ‘managed’ with a little bit of cunning. Check out the lemonade and bug zapper because summer is just around the corner. Taking time during those hot summer days and nights to relax and enjoy life is a must in today’s frenetic bustle. If you’re a bird lover who can mean getting home, sitting on the porch overlooking your garden lush and watch the birds Frolic and play. Many of us are the same, and we have placed in our garden bird houses to try to convince a family down to take up residence, but to no avail. There are some simple things that will keep a bird by bird nesting in your home. May seem simple, but many of us overlook these key elements.

First, in order for the birds to make your garden a home you will need a steady supply of water. This could be in the form of a pond, stream or as simple as putting a bird bath in the garden. Keep the water fresh bird bath, or want to go out. Where water is plentiful and not too far will nest of birds.

Secondly, in order to better your chances you can provide them with a source of food near the House of birds like this keep them coming back and finally bring home in your offer. Make sure the food source cannot be accessed from squirrels, rats or other animals that you may eat food and scare children. There are many vendors selling squirrel proof bird feeders for your garden and they work pretty well.

Third and most important, try to put the Bird House in an area where there is very little human traffic and safe from all predators. This is more important because the birds want to feel safe and if the House is hung from the children’s game or a sidewalk that has people walking every day, so chances are not birds feel safe and get ahead. Make sure that natural predators cannot get home as cats, snakes or any other natural predators that you have in your area.

Finally, the Bird House in the face with the back facing the wind. For example, if the wind come normally from the West you will want to configure it with the entrance facing East. This will allow the birds to remain dry when it rains and allow them to stay warm on those cold nights of spring. If you set the Bird House on the opposite side of your home from wind direction.

Try these simple tips and you’ll get great results. Remember birds want to feel safe and protected, just like we do. If there is no food, water and security around willingly move into your neighborhood garden.
